Grains On The Go -Ezekial Bread
By: Derek Charlebois

In this fast-paced world, fitness enthusiasts need portable meals. Often times it is not practical to carry the highest quality meals with you. Bringing quality proteins (i.e. Chicken, tuna, or protein powder) and fats (i.e. almonds) is easy, but finding a versatile portable carbohydrate is not. The company Food For Life (www.foodforlife.com) has created a portable, versatile carbohydrate source…bread!

Now I know what some of you are thinking, but Food For Life’s bread is made from sprouted grains and does not contain any flour. My personal favorite is the Ezekiel Sprouted Grain Bread, which is made from:

INGREDIENTS: Organic Sprouted Whole Wheat, Filtered Water, Organic Malted Barley, Organic Sprouted Whole Millet, Organic Sprouted Whole Barley, Organic Sprouted Whole Lentils, Organic Sprouted Whole Soybeans, Organic Sprouted Whole Spelt, Fresh Yeast, Sea Salt.
And has (per slice):

  • Fat = 0.5 grams
  • Carbohydrates = 15 grams
    • 3 grams fiber
    • 0 grams sugar
  • Protein = 4 grams

This low-glycemic, sprouted grain bread is great source of high quality carbohydrates. You can put peanut butter (i.e. Smucker’s 100% Natural Peanut Butter) on 1-2 pieces of bread and get both your required carbohydrates and fats. Unlike other bread that taste fake and provide little nutrients, Ezekiel bread tastes great and is good for you.
