Note: “Ending Mediocrity” is a monthly column by Scivation Owner and National Level NPC Bodybuilder, Marc Lobliner. In this series, Marc will share ways in which you can improve yourself and above all END MEDIOCRITY in your own life and become brilliant.
I hate when people use contest prep as an excuse. It is my biggest pet peeve in the history of mankind. Well, my biggest pet peeve next to when people put banana peels in the kitchen sink and when people cut their toenails in public places, but that is beside the point. The bottom line is that if you cannot handle contest prep without being mean to loved ones and small dogs, without being an incompetent doofus at work and jeopardizing your livelihood, or without blaming not being able to get up and get your own damn bottle of water, then competing is not for you. Let’s face it, you will never make any decent money competing and even at the highest levels, your cost for “other supplements” will far outweigh the prize winnings or sponsorships that you will receive. Thus, I have an idea….
Compete because you love to train, diet and show people what you can achieve with hard work and NOT for any other reason. Look at competing as a gift from God, giving you the ability to get onstage, show your best, and flex. Do you know how many people in wheelchairs would give anything to have the gift you have? The gift to train, the gift to compete, and the gift to perform. Yet I see these deputy assclowns walking around getting ready for the huge “Mr. Backyard Local Show” and acting like they are entitled to be mindless jerks simply because they are willing to jam their over-dieted, over-tanned buttcheeks into a pair of tights and flex really hard? Give me a break!
I have said it before and I will say it again, “Bodybuilding should enhance, not take over your life. I LOVE training. I LOVE dieting. People who cannot train unless doing a show might not be doing it for the right reason. Do it for love. Do NOT do it for attention and if doing it for money, be sure to work on your shoulder flexibility so that you can turn your hand around and give yourself a back-handed, Rick James Four-Finger PIMP SLAP right across your fat face! I have known a lot of people who can only train while “on gear”. These are the worst offenders. If you do not have the base of DIET AND TRAINING perfected, you are not only wasting your “gear”, you are wasting your time and money.
I once spoke to a stock broker. He was in the gym complaining to me about not being able to follow his diet. I looked at his piss-poor physique and said, “How long do you train and how often.” He replied, “About an hour a day, six days a week.” I then said, “Would you in business invest six hours a week in a project that yielded little to NO or even NEGATIVE R.O.I. (return on investment). He looked up and said, emphatically, “Hell no!” I then told him that he is investing all of this time, effort and opportunity cost into training and getting NOTHING out of it. He is wasting time, money and his life! If doing something, do it right and do it optimally. He wised up, signed up for www.TeamScivation.com, and a month later, Derek Charlebois’ ingenious programs had him looking WAY better! Diet is key!
Bodybuilding is about setting goals and meeting and what I like to do, BEATING them! Use it to your advantage and crush the competition, both onstage and off.
